Thug Kitchen

I have made a few recipes from this F*ing cookbook, all delicious.

They don’t market this book as a vegan or plant based cookbook. They kind of take the approach of, you don’t need meat, so why bother. They don’t get into the science of it or the debate of plants vs meat, they just say, this is who we are, your not finding god damn meat in this book.

Non Dairy Kale Ceasar Salad w/ Ezekiel bread croutons

Roasted Beet Salad w/ homemade Honey Dijion

Mango Red Bean Bowl

Tofu, Spinach, Mushroon Lasagna
This recipe has become a new staple in my home, I make it weekly. Easy, filling, and Delicious!

👎My one problem with this cookbook is that the whole point of this book, besides being edgy, is to make cooking tangible for everyone. The first chapter is about how we’ve really screwed up and have no knowledge of how to cook because we haven’t been forced to cook in our world today, everything is premade or fast-food. While, I 100% agree with this, the rest goes on to say how we can all learn to cook by simply following the directions for their recipes. They are very conscious of ordering the directions in cook/prep order, which is great for cooking newbs, but none of these recipes are easy. They work, and they create delicious food, but they do not make cooking/eating plant based seem easy. And dag-nabbit it can be!

👎The other thing that I think would make it tough for cooking newbs is that everything is FROM F*ing SCRATCH. I’m talking dry beans, no canned beans, make your own non dairy dressing out of soaked almonds. They do tell you how to modify or make “quick cheats” to save time or steps though.

👍A really cool feature about this book that had me close to dancing in the grocery aisles, is that although this cookbook has very specific and/or odd ingredients, they literally tell you where to find it in a grocery store! This was so cool, such a smart note to add to each recipe.
